After taking her Nursing Boards that summer, she worked as a Registered Nurse at New York City's Metropolitan Hospital, and then, at the City's Premature Nursery Center at Elmhurst Hospital before moving to Northern California. She received a Bachelor's Degree from Sacramento State University, and earned a Master's Degree from the University of California at San Francisco in 1980.
